NBC Olympics Coverage Angers Me

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Olympics. I watch as much of it as I can, and I am very thankful that NBC throws a whole bunch of it on all of it’s networks. That being said, I think this year they are doing a horrible job. And here’s why …
It seems like every event we watch, we only get to see the top 2 or 3 competitors battle it out, and then they’re off for a commercial, blabbing about some Olympic hopeful’s story, or switching to something else. That is not what I am here for. I enjoy the whole competition. I want to see that one dude struggle on the rings. I want to cheer for nations I didn’t know existed before now. I want to see the Olympics. I don’t want to just watch USA vs. China and throw in a Canada or Australia every now and then. Show me the event!
Take the women’s gymnastics for instance. (Yes I watched the gymnastics … uhh, my wife made me :P) Anywho, if you watch it on NBC you see China and USA. Oh, and that one girl’s routine from Romania while the announcers talk about how much they suck now. (Yet all of a sudden they pull out a bronze with no mention of it?) And to top it off, we break right in the middle of it to see Phelps swim 100mph and beat everybody by like 10 minutes. When we come back — oh yeah, now we’ve missed more gymnastics that we won’t get to see.
Don’t get me wrong — I definitely wanted to see Phelps dominate also. It was a great race. But I don’t care that all this crap is happening “LIVE”. I recorded every bit of it on my DVR. It’s in freaking China - I don’t care what time it is. I’ll watch it when I am ready to watch it. But I want to watch a whole event at a time. In High Def.
I would pay $500 in a heartbeat for individual HD channels of each event. No commercials. No Olympic love-stories. No cutouts to other events. A gymnastics channel. A diving channel. You get the picture. Come on NBC — stop commercializing so bad that we can’t even get to enjoy the real spirit of the competition.
Anybody else with me on this?
