Smoke detectors are evil

Don’t get me wrong — I know what they are there for, and I fully appreciate what they do for saving lives (that’s why I have several). But why is it that every smoke detector battery always “gets low” only in the middle of the night? The time last night? 1:18am. Therefore I am tired today. In all my years I don’t think I have ever heard the low battery chirp of a smoke detector during the day. They must be evil …
